Flight of Kinaree is a Bangkok-born experience that resynthesizes, celebrates and challenges Thai culture through the cutting edge of machine learning, electronic music and folk dance-drama. Performing in London for the first time, AI Sound Artist/Researcher/Director Lamtharn Hantrakul a.k.a 'yaboihanoi' and collaborators Kid Buak Sipp and Kan-Ta harness deep roots in Thai classical artforms like Khon, Nang Yai and Nora as the structural basis for AI systems and algorithms. From machine learning synthesizers which generate sound according to the tunings and melodies of Thai instruments, to performances of new dance-drama inspired by these never-before-heard AI soundscapes, this piece imagines a future where technology empowers modern forms of cultural expression from Thailand, Southeast Asia and beyond. Featuring yaboihanoi's winning entry to the international AI Song Contest 2022 'Enter Demons and Gods - อสุระเทวะชุมนุม', newly composed movement and projection sequences for RBO/SHIFT 2026 and an exclusive artists' introduction to Thai Music and Dance.

Royal Opera House Selects Thai performance Flight of Kinaree to Open and Close Its First Festival on Opera and AI

LONDON — Flight of Kinaree (กินรีหนีไฟ), a work of Thai music-dance-drama built on electronic music, folk dance-drama, generative algorithms and AI, was selected to both open and close the Royal Opera House's inaugural Opera and AI festival RBO/SHIFT 2026. The performance launched the four-day programme on Thursday 4 June at the Linbury Theatre and returned as the festival finale with a standing ovation on Saturday 6 June. Curated by Royal Opera Associate Director Netia Jones, the festival explores the shifting boundary between opera and technology.

Created by Thai artist and technologist Lamtharn Hantrakul (yaboihanoi) with performing-arts troupe Kid Buak Sipp and Nora musician Kan-Ta, Flight of Kinaree uses Thai classical artforms — Khon, Nang Yai, Hun Krabok and Nora — as the structural basis for its generative algorithms. AI-generated soundscapes rooted in Thai scales are paired with bespoke dance, projection design and mixed-media sequences reimagining Thai performing arts. The piece first premiered at the Goethe-Institut Thailand in April 2026. For its London staging, the work incorporated yaboihanoi's 'Enter Demons and Gods' (อสุระเทวะชุมนุม) — his winning entry to the 2022 International AI Song Contest — alongside new dance and projection sequences commissioned for RBO/SHIFT 2026.

รอยัลโอเปร่าเฮาส์ ( Royal Opera House ) คัดเลือกสังคีตศิลป์ไทย “Flight of Kinaree ”แสดงเปิดและปิดเทศกาล โอเปร่ากับ AI ครั้งแรก

ลอนดอน - Flight of Kinaree ( กินรีหนีไฟ ) สังคีตศิลป์ที่ผสานดนตรีไทย นาฏศิลป์และละครเข้ากับดนตรีอีเลคโทรนิกส์ อัลกอริธึมเชิงปริวรรต ( generative algorithms ) และปัญญาประดิษฐ์ ( AI) ได้รับคัดสรรให้เป็นทั้งการแสดงเปิดและปิดเทศกาลโอเปร่ากับ AI ในชื่อ RBO/SHIFT 2026 ครั้งแรกของ รอยัลโอเปร่าเฮาส์ (Royal Opera House) ที่ประเทศอังกฤษการแสดงเปิดเทศกาลมีขึ้นเมื่อวันที่ 4 มิถุนายน ณ โรงละคร Linbury Theatre และกลับมาเป็นการแสดงปิดเทศกาลท่ามกลางเสียงปรบมือลุกขึ้นยืน (standing ovation) จากผู้ชมทั้งโรงในวันที่ 6 มิถุนายน โดยเทศกาลนี้ผู้เป็นต้นคิดและคัดสรรจัดรายการ คือ เนเทีย โจนส์ รองผู้อำนวยการของรอยัลโอเปร่าเฮาส์ มีจุดประสงค์สำรวจแสวงหาแนวทางใหม่ๆที่จะขยับขยายแปลงเปลี่ยนความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างศิลปะโอเปร่ากับเทคโนโลยี

ผลงานสังคีตศิลป์ชิ้นนี้สร้างสรรค์โดย ลำธาร หาญตระกูล (yaboihanoi) ร่วมกับคณะศิลปะการแสดง คิดบวกสิปป์ และนักดนตรีโนรา กานตพงศ์ คำเจริญ (Kan-Ta)โดยใช้รูปแบบศิลปะการแสดงไทยดั้งเดิม ได้แก่ โขน หนังใหญ่ หุ่นกระบอก และโนรา เป็นโครงสร้างหลักในการพัฒนาอัลกอริธึ่มเชิงปริวรรตและการสร้างเสียงดนตรีโดย AI ที่อิงระบบเสียงดนตรีไทย ซึ่งนำมาผสานอย่างลงตัวเข้ากับการออกแบบท่าเต้น ภาพฉายและการแสดงสื่อผสมที่สร้างขึ้นเป็นพิเศษเพื่อการนี้โดยเฉพาะอนึ่ง 

กินรีหนีไฟ (Flight of Kinaree) ได้แสดงรอบปฐมทัศน์ ที่ สถาบันเกอเธ่ ประเทศไทย (Goethe-Institut Thailand) เมื่อเดือนเมษายน 2569 สำหรับการแสดงที่ลอนดอนครั้งนี้ ได้รวมบทประพันธ์เพลง “Enter Demons and Gods” (อสุระเทวะชุมนุม) ที่ทำให้ yaboihanoi ได้รับรางวัลชนะเลิศ International AI Song Contest 2022 เพิ่มเข้าไปใน Flight of Kinaree พร้อมฉากรำและภาพฉายที่สร้างขึ้นใหม่เพื่อการนิทรรศน์สำหรับงานเทศกาล RBO/SHIFT 2026 ครั้งนี้โดยเฉพาะ

“ Flight of Kinaree” เป็นการตีความใหม่เรื่องเล่า ดนตรี นาฏศิลป์ และละครรำของไทยสำหรับผู้ชมร่วมสมัย มีการใช้เทคโนโลยีเพื่อหลอมรวมอดีต ปัจจุบัน และอนาคตของศิลปะการแสดงไทยเข้าด้วยกันเพื่อให้ผู้ชมได้รับประสบการณ์ในรูปแบบสื่อผสมซึ่งจะเสริมพลังสื่อสารให้กับมรดกทางวัฒนธรรมของไทย ของเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้และในภูมิภาคอื่นๆ”-ลำธาร หาญตระกูล
